Product-wise export breakdown
The plant’s export portfolio in 2023 was diverse, encompassing several products:
- Copper Products: Almalyk MMC exported 56,894 tons of copper products. The global demand for copper has been on the rise, with China and India being the largest consumers.
- Zinc Products: The plant also exported 41,607 tons of zinc products. Zinc exports globally were worth $14.2bn in 2022.
- Molybdenum Products: The plant exported 840 tons of molybdenum products. China and South Korea were the leading producers of molybdenum in 2022.
- Lead Concentrate: Almalyk MMC exported 22,728 tons of lead concentrate. The global lead market saw an increase in demand, with the U.S. being the largest consumer.
- Copper Sulfate: The plant exported 5,045 tons of copper sulfate. South Africa was the leading exporter of copper sulfates in 2021.
In addition, the plant fulfilled its forecast tasks for the export of rhenium, cadmium, tellurium, and palladium powder.
Expanding export geography
AMMP’s products are exported to more than 20 countries. In 2023, the plant expanded its export geography by entering new markets for the sale of copper sulfate, namely Mexico and Finland. This expansion was facilitated by the improvement of product quality, the introduction of appropriate quality certificates, and full compliance with international standards.
High-value product sales
In 2023, Almalyk MMC sold copper wire rods, a high-value-added product, in the United States for $22.8mn. This sale underscores the plant’s commitment to producing and exporting high-quality, value-added products.
