President Shavkat Mirziyoyev issued a directive stating that the Ministry of Energy must give prior notice before cutting off electricity supply to industrial enterprises in Uzbekistan, Daryo correspondent reports.
Recent statistics reveal a 5.7% hike in industrial production over the last seven months, amounting to a total of UZS 345 trillion ($28bn), signifying the growing importance of the industrial sector in the country's economy.
Meanwhile, the electrical industry saw a 46% increase, the car industry experienced a 16% increase, and the building materials and garment industries grew by 12% and 11%, respectively.
Consequently, there was a 30% rise in the processing of copper and a 36% increase in the production of high-value appliances. This led to producing electrical products worth UZS 12.5 trillion, with a 25% rise in exports to over $550mn.
A local start-up has significantly boosted industrial production in 25 districts and cities, resulting in a 10% increase.
Moreover, the country has successfully launched 2,000 new industrial projects this year, expected to generate an additional UZS 1 trillion in production by year-end. However, there has been a decrease in industrial production in 34 districts and cities compared to last year, particularly in the pharmaceutical, footwear, and textile industries.
Working groups have been deployed to various regions to address this issue to identify new opportunities and reserves for increasing industrial production. For instance, Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine has initiated collaboration with local industrial enterprises, producing products worth UZS 1 trillion, including polymers, cast parts, and chemical reagents.
Similar opportunities are available in Andijan, Kashkadarya, Navoi, Samarkand, and Khorezm.
The President has expressed concern regarding the lack of contribution from the Mayor's assistants to localization efforts.
