In 2023, Afghanistan, under Taliban rule, has reported a notable surge in exports, reaching approximately $2bn, Sputnik Afghanistan reports. The Taliban's Ministry of Industry and Trade highlighted the major export destinations, including Pakistan, India, China, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
The ministry acknowledged challenges in coal exports and trade disruptions with neighboring countries in the previous year. Despite these issues, the overall export volume showed a significant increase. The Taliban Ministry of Trade and Industry reported a 2% rise in Afghanistan's exports compared to previous years.
The country's Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Investment emphasized Afghanistan's diverse trade relations with numerous regional and global partners. They called for the removal of restrictions on the private sector to foster trade development.
Earlier statements from the Taliban's trade minister highlighted the establishment of trade relations with 60 countries.
Recently it was reported that the authorities of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have agreed to lift restrictions on the transportation of goods. This decision allows Uzbek national carriers to operate within the territory of Afghanistan, marking a new chapter in the economic relations between the two countries.
