Presidential resolution
In a move to support the elderly and lonely citizens of Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a resolution that will provide free railway or intercity bus tickets starting from April next year. This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing the quality of life for these individuals, who often face challenges in mobility and social interaction.
Extending support to persons with disabilities
The initiative is not limited to the elderly and lonely. It also extends to persons with disabilities, a group that constitutes 2.14% of the population in Uzbekistan. These individuals must be registered in a special register to avail of the free tickets.
Replacing monthly compensation with material assistance
In addition to free transportation, the resolution also addresses the financial needs of these vulnerable groups. The monthly compensation for housing, communal services, and products for the elderly and Uzbek citizens with disabilities will be replaced by material assistance. This assistance will amount to the minimum consumer expenses, which are currently set at UZS 568,000 ($46).
