Reports have emerged indicating the infiltration of the Hong Kong virus into Uzbekistan, with Nurmat Otabekov, the first deputy chairman of the Sanepid Committee, providing details on the matter.
During a press conference attended by the leadership of the Sanitary-Epidemiological Peace and Public Health Committee of AOKA, it was revealed that laboratory analyses conducted by regional laboratories of the committee identified the presence of influenza type A (H3N2) among patients.
Nurmat Otabekov explained that this virus originated in Hong Kong in 1960, emerging as a mutated form of the H2N2 virus. Initially causing issues in various eastern countries, it has since become a common seasonal flu virus. All vaccines administered in Uzbekistan, totaling 2.2mn doses so far, are designed to combat this particular strain. Furthermore, private vaccination centers in the country offer three additional types of vaccines that directly target the influenza strain expected to circulate seasonally this year.
Otabekov emphasized that there is no need for excessive concern or panic, stating, "Therefore, I don't see any reason for us to be seriously worried or panic about it. We acknowledge once again that this is a simple, seasonal virus."
