The delegation of Uzbekistan recently engaged in the 39th plenary meeting of the Eurasian group, marking a substantial participation in an international forum of significant importance, prosecution department of Uzbekistan reported.
Led by Sh. Sokhibnazarov, the Head of the Department of the General Prosecutor's Office, participation was part of the broader Eurasia Conference in Sanya, People's Republic of China, taking place from December 4-8, 2023.
The 39th general week of the Eurasian group saw the convergence of over 250 representatives from more than 20 countries, including Belarus, India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, USA, UAE, Azerbaijan, Japan, Luxembourg, Armenia, Iran, and others. Additionally, experts from international organizations, including the UN, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, OSCE, ODB, CIS ATM, EODB, were also in attendance.
The plenary meeting's agenda comprised the consideration of more than 50 issues pertinent to the Eurasian group's activities. Of notable significance was the endorsement of Sh. Sokhibnazarov's candidacy, Head of the Department at the General Prosecutor's Office, for the position of Deputy Chairman of the Eurasian Group for 2024-2025. This decision garnered unanimous support from all member states, solidifying it through the approval of the General Assembly.
Throughout the event, discussions unfolded around the 1st progress report of the Russian Federation and the 5th progress report of the Kyrgyz Republic, both of which were reviewed and sanctioned. The approval of the "Strategy of the Eurasian Group for 2024-2028" emerged as another noteworthy outcome. This strategy encompasses preparations for the forthcoming 3rd stage mutual evaluation processes of the Eurasian Group and outlines technical assistance measures to member states.
Typological studies on combating money laundering and terrorist financing underwent review and received approval, indicating a commitment to bolstering the group's efforts in addressing financial crimes.
