Civil rights activist and lawyer Shaun King, Founder & Executive Director of the Grassroots Law Project, known for his prominent role in the George Floyd case in the USA, recently took to his Instagram to shed light on disturbing revelations surrounding false claims made by the Israeli government. The shocking admissions include a fabricated story by Lt. Col. Yaron Buskila, who falsely reported seeing dead babies hung on a clothing line, leading to serious repercussions.
Israel has officially acknowledged that Buskila's account was entirely fictitious. Ishay Coen, a journalist for the ultra-Orthodox website Kikar Hashabbat, initially shared the interview but has now admitted his error, questioning why an army officer would invent such a horrifying story.
Contrary to the alarming reports of 40 beheaded and hung babies, it has been revealed that only one baby was tragically killed on October 7. The other reported infant death occurred at the hospital, involving a Bedouin mother the following day. These baseless lies have had severe consequences, contributing to the loss of Palestinian lives for months.
Shaun King raised crucial questions about the origin of these lies and their propagation. Who instructed government officials to disseminate these false narratives, and why did the United States repeat them?
In a letter addressed to the White House and First Lady Jill Biden, Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, propagated a massive lie that garnered international attention. Netanyahu claimed that Hamas abducted a woman who was nine months pregnant, forcing her to give birth in captivity. This plea for action led to a widespread call for the release of alleged child hostages suffering under Hamas.
However, Israel has now admitted that this entire narrative was a fabrication. No pregnant woman was kidnapped, and no hostage gave birth in captivity. The false information had a ripple effect, as media outlets like The Times of Israel repeated the unfounded claims, and social media amplified the misinformation.
One specific case involved a Thai worker named Nutthawaree Munkan, falsely accused of being pregnant and giving birth in captivity. A viral post circulated about her alleged situation, but recent images show her in good condition after being freed. Israeli newspaper Haaretz provided an official fact check, debunking the claims made by Sara Netanyahu.
In addition to her letter to the White House, Sara Netanyahu also sent correspondence to the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, to the wife of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and to the wives of other world leaders, amplifying the impact of these unfounded allegations on an international scale.
