The recently appointed Consul General of Uzbekistan in New York, Jamil Sharapov, has officially assumed his duties, Dunyo reports.
Formerly serving as the deputy director of the Consular Legal Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sharapov, 42 years old, is a graduate of the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies (now Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies). His professional trajectory includes various roles within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan.
Jamil Sharapov steps into the role, succeeding Kamal Ikramov, who served as the head of the Consulate General in New York from 2018 to 2023. The consular jurisdiction of the Consulate General encompasses a range of states and administrative territories in the United States, including but not limited to California, New York, Illinois, and Washington. Additionally, it extends to Mexico and various Latin American countries, excluding Cuba and Brazil, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington.
This development comes in the context of broader diplomatic activities, with Russia expressing plans to establish its consulate general in Samarkand, and Mongolia considering the opening of its embassy in Uzbekistan.
