In response to the increasing number of citizens of Uzbekistan attempting to enter the United States illegally through the U.S.-Mexico border, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has implemented immediate changes to the removal policy. Effective immediately, individuals from Uzbekistan found unlawfully entering the United States will no longer be released into the country and will instead face detention until the resolution of their immigration case.
The U.S. government is collaborating closely with the Government of Uzbekistan to expedite the removal process for citizens who lack legal grounds to stay in the United States. Removals are being carried out through a combination of commercial airline deportations and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) contracted charter missions.
Illegal migration across the U.S.-Mexico border is not only perilous but also involves significant financial costs. The DHS strongly advises against succumbing to false promises made by smugglers and encourages individuals to choose safe and legal means to travel to the United States.
Those who cross the U.S. border unlawfully will now face severe consequences, including a minimum five-year bar on legal re-entry. Furthermore, family members found assisting individuals in illegal migration may be deemed permanently ineligible for a visa.
While the United States remains committed to working with foreign partners to establish secure, orderly, and humane migration processes, the government emphasizes its determination to promptly remove irregular entrants and non-citizens without legal basis under Title 8 authority.
The immediate changes aim to deter illegal immigration from Uzbekistan and serve as a clear message that violating U.S. immigration laws will have severe consequences.
Earlier Daryo reported that United States Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Jonathan Henik expressed concerns about visa refusals and acknowledged the increasing number of visa applicants from Uzbekistan as a positive development.
"The fact that the number of applicants is higher than ever is actually a very good sign," he stated.
When asked about the trend of Uzbek citizens attempting to cross the U.S. border illegally, Ambassador Henik responded;
"I don't think they did it to go to Disneyland, right? They do it because they see economic opportunities in the USA that are not legal under tourist visas."
He emphasized the embassy's obligation to adhere to visa regulations and ensure legal travel for visa holders. Ambassador Henik conveyed optimism about U.S.-Uzbek relations, emphasizing a desire to enhance exchanges and contacts between the two countries. He expressed a commitment to U.S. legal obligations while acknowledging the aspirations of Uzbek citizens pursuing economic opportunities abroad.
