In a concerted effort to alleviate the humanitarian and economic crises in Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have pledged to coordinate their actions. This commitment was the outcome of a discussion between Ismatullah Ergashev, Special Representative of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Tarig Ali Bakhit, the Envoy of the OIC Secretary General for Afghanistan.
The two parties have agreed to maintain an ongoing dialogue with the current Afghan government, addressing issues outlined in the organization’s resolutions. This collaborative approach underscores the commitment of both Uzbekistan and the OIC to engage constructively with Afghanistan’s authorities in the pursuit of stability and prosperity.
As of the end of June, over 8.2 mn Afghans were residing in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and Iran. The Afghan diaspora underscores the scale of the humanitarian challenge, and the importance of coordinated international efforts to address it.
The collaboration between Uzbekistan and the OIC represents a significant step forward in the international community’s response to the crisis in Afghanistan. By working together, these two entities aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of millions of Afghans affected by the ongoing crisis.
