The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting between Ismatulla Irgashev, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, and Tariq Bakhit, the Special Representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for Afghanistan.
The discussion centered on the prevailing situation in Afghanistan, with both representatives emphasizing the importance of developing a unified stance among OIC member states. The necessity of coordinated efforts to safeguard human rights, particularly those of women and girls, and the urgency of providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people in anticipation of the approaching winter were key topics.
Uzbekistan, a consistent advocate for humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to providing essential assistance to the Afghan people. To this day, Uzbekistan continues to educate and train Afghan citizens through its Education Center.
In fact, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on November 24, underscored Afghanistan's importance during his speech at the First Summit of the United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA).
"Despite the absence of representatives from Afghanistan at today’s meeting, we urge the restoration of cooperation and working relations with Afghanistan within the SPECA Program for regional stability," remarked President Mirziyoyev.
Historically, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have maintained diplomatic ties, and their leaders have expressed the importance of fostering good relations. It is crucial to emphasize the Taliban's commitment upon assuming power, explicitly stating their pledge to refrain from firing a single bullet toward Uzbekistan.
