Russian gas supplies to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan have commenced, leading to a reconfiguration of gas flows in the Russian gas transportation system. Igor Safonov, General Director of Gazprom UGS, highlighted the adjustments necessary for this new phase, emphasizing the switch of the Central Asia - Center gas transportation system into reverse mode.
Under the two-year agreement between UzGaztrade and Gazprom Export, the export volume is set at 9mn cubic meters per day, totaling almost 2.8bn cubic meters annually. Safonov underscored the expected impact on underground gas storage facilities in the Volga region and Orenburg region due to these deliveries.
Addressing the situation, Safonov mentioned the operational status of key underground gas storage facilities, including the Kaluga underground gas storage facility, Elshano-Kurdyumskoye underground gas storage facility, Kanchurinsko-Musinsky underground gas storage complex, and the Udmurt reserve complex. He elaborated on the significance of the Udmurt reserve complex, emphasizing its role in ensuring reliable gas supply to Udmurtia and the Nizhnekamsk industrial node.
"The Udmurt reserve complex is one of the company's key projects in the underground gas storage industry. Its development involves the creation of gas storage facilities in four separate geological structures, combined into a single technological complex. First of all, the task is to ensure reliable gas supply to the population and industrial enterprises of Udmurtia and the entire Nizhnekamsk industrial node," Safonov stated.
Moreover, the impact on gas transmission capacities, with Gazprom Transgaz Ekaterinburg's capacities partially reoriented to export. Surgut is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting the needs of the Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions, facing an increase in fuel supplies along the Urengoy - Chelyabinsk corridor. This shift is attributed not only to gas export to Uzbekistan but also to the accelerated economic development in the Ural region, leading to increased fuel consumption.
