Uzbekistan's Energy Minister, Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, has reassured the public that there is an ample supply of gasoline in the country, despite the recent restrictions imposed by Russia on fuel exports. The Minister made this statement during his participation in the Verona Eurasian Economic Forum in Samarkand. He confirmed that the gas supplies from Russia to Uzbekistan, which commenced on October 7, are being carried out following the contractual obligations between the two countries.
Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov stated, "There is no shortage of gasoline. The gas is coming. All contractual obligations that have been signed with Gazprom are fulfilled. About 300 mn cube meters of gas have already arrived in Uzbekistan."
Mirzamakhmudov did not disclose the price of gas imported from Russia and Turkmenistan, citing confidentiality. He also refrained from providing the agency's forecasts on the volume of gas exports to China for the current and upcoming years.
Regarding oil imports, the Minister mentioned that Uzbekistan imported 1 mn tons of oil and petroleum products this year, slightly higher than the previous year. The country intends to increase oil imports to meet the growing demands of its economy. Mirzamakhmudov emphasized that the signing of an intergovernmental agreement with Russia on oil supplies was crucial, and the issue of supply is of utmost importance.
The Energy Minister emphasized that the restrictions imposed by Russia on the export of gasoline and diesel since September 21 have not affected supplies to Uzbekistan, thanks to the intergovernmental agreement between the two countries.
Regarding the recent increase in the limit on the purchase of AI-80 gasoline on the stock exchange, Mirzamakhmudov clarified that it was implemented to prevent price manipulation and ensure the availability of gasoline to the public. He confirmed that there is no shortage of fuel in the country.
The restrictions on the purchase of AI-80 gasoline have led to a decrease in the number of buyers, prompting gas station representatives and stock brokers to request a reduction in the limit.
