Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Rashid Meredov and Bakhtiyor Saidov signed in Ashgabat a "Roadmap" on further development of cooperation between the two countries.
The Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan informs that this programme was developed in order to specify the time frame for the practical implementation of previously reached agreements and arrangements.
The document envisages key areas of joint activities in politics, culture, trade, economy, as well as cooperation in energy, transport, logistics, water management and environmental protection.
Experts told Daryo that a joint project is currently being implemented to create a trade zone in the border area.
Turkmenistan is becoming one of Uzbekistan's largest foreign trade partners. In January-September 2023, total trade turnover amounted to $830.3mn, up 1.9% year-on-year.
Uzbekistan imported $700.9mn worth of products from Turkmenistan and exported $129.4mn worth of products to this country. Turkmenistan ranked sixth among Uzbekistan's trading partners in the reporting period, up three points from a month earlier.
