Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has called upon Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take decisive action against Hamas following the Palestinian militant group's unprecedented attack, which has resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives.
Prominent Indian Americans, including two Republican presidential candidates, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, have expressed their support for Israel in the wake of the unprecedented assaults by the Hamas militant group, which have left hundreds dead.
Hamas, a Palestinian militant organization, launched a barrage of rocket attacks in southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of over 600 individuals, including soldiers, and the injury of more than 1,900 others. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated multiple airstrikes targeting Hamas' critical infrastructure. This has led to approximately 1,000 confirmed fatalities in Israel and Gaza, marking the most significant escalation in decades between the two sides.
This is not just an attack on Israel—this was an attack on America.

Speaking to NBC News on October 8, Republican presidential candidate Haley emphasized the importance of standing with Israel, citing the threats posed by Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and the Iranian regime, all of whom have expressed hostility towards Israel and the United States. She called for unity and support for Israel, emphasizing the potential risks that America might face. Haley even directed a message to Prime Minister Netanyahu, urging him to take decisive action against Hamas.
During her tenure as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Haley introduced a resolution condemning Hamas, which received support only from the United States within the Security Council. She reaffirmed America's commitment to not bowing to international pressure and standing by Israel's side.
Key lesson for America to learn from the attack on Israel: we cannot be complacent about defending *our own* borders. If it can happen there, it can happen here. Our own border is near-completely porous right now. The Southern Border is a disaster & I visited the Northern Border…
— Vivek Ramaswamy (@VivekGRamaswamy) October 8, 2023
Another Indian American Republican candidate, Ramaswamy, underscored the lessons that America should draw from the attack on Israel. He emphasized the need for the U.S. to be vigilant in defending its borders, highlighting vulnerabilities in border defense, cyber security, super-EMP defense, nuclear missile defense, and space-based defenses. Ramaswamy cautioned against complacency and urged the nation to consider the attacks on Israel as a wake-up call for strengthening its defenses on various fronts.
