During the four quarters leading up to Q1 2023, the total trade in goods and services between the UK and Uzbekistan amounted to £267mn. This figure represents a decline of 24.1% or £85mn in current prices from the four quarters ending in Q1 2022. Of this total, £137mn accounted for UK exports to Uzbekistan during the same period, indicating a decrease of 4.9% or £7mn in current prices compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, total UK imports from Uzbekistan amounted to £130mn in the four quarters leading up to Q1 2023, representing a decline of 37.5% or £78mn in current prices compared to the previous year.
Uzbekistan was the UK's 121st largest trading partner in the four quarters to the end of Q1 2023, accounting for less than 0.1% of total UK trade.
The United Kingdom and Uzbekistan have had diplomatic relations since 1992, shortly after Uzbekistan gained independence from the Soviet Union. The two countries have cooperated in trade, education, and security.
In recent years, the UK has assisted Uzbekistan in human rights, governance, and economic development. The two countries have also worked together on counterterrorism and regional stability issues.
