The Greek port city of Volos, situated along the Aegean Sea, has faced the impact of a powerful storm for the second time in a month, named "Elias."
According to Euronew, due to heavy rainfall, hurricane-force winds, landslides, and flooding, hundreds of people found themselves stranded in mountainous villages. The streets of the historic city, with a population of approximately 150,000, were once again submerged.
Thousands of individuals have been evacuated. The situation has repeated itself, much like after the storm "Daniel," as Volos residents lament:
"I've been living here for 28 years, and I can't take it anymore. There's nothing I can do. It's happened twice already. Enough. We're throwing out the furniture; nothing is left. It's the same thing again, only worse. They built ramps for vehicles to access the river, which hasn't been cleaned in 3-4 years. As a result, the banks were breached, and the river overflowed. This river has the strongest current in Volos."
The previous storm, "Daniel," led to the deaths of at least 17 people in Greece. It was preceded by the most extensive forest fires in European history, which claimed the lives of at least 26 more individuals. The government pledged to allocate over two billion euros for the recovery of affected regions.
