The lower chamber of Kazakhstan's parliament is considering a ban on the sale of energy drinks to individuals under the age of 21. This proposal comes from the country's Minister of Health, Azhar Giniyat, as reported by NUR.KZ.
"The Ministry of Health supports such a regulation because young people, when consuming energy drinks, harm their health. This norm is still under discussion and has not been accepted. We expect that this draft law will be submitted to the Senate in the near future," the minister stated during a briefing on September 26.
Last autumn, Kazakhstan's President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, instructed authorities to consider the introduction of a ban on the sale of energy drinks to teenagers. At the time, he emphasized the importance of preventing harmful habits from taking root among the youth.
Earlier, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Health proposed criminal and administrative penalties for the sale and purchase of vapes, as well as liquids and flavorings for them. Currently, the draft law is under review by deputies, and it may be adopted in October.
In Uzbekistan, the sale of energy drinks to individuals under 18 has been prohibited since 2019.
