Munich police reported on September 17 that eight individuals sustained minor injuries in an incident involving a rollercoaster at Oktoberfest.
The mishap occurred on Saturday, the festival's first day, at the "Höllenblitz" or "Hell's Lightning" ride. As per the Ride Director Will Ottens, one train unexpectedly rolled into another stationary train, resulting in a minor collision.
Ottens explained that all passengers disembarked from the ride independently. "It was apparently a technical defect in the system. We are in the process of clarifying the matter," said the operator.
Medical services provided on-site care to the injured individuals, with three being taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The police temporarily blocked the ride for further investigation, and an expert was summoned to assess the situation. Reports suggested that repair work was underway on the ride, and there were indications that it could resume operation as early as September 18.
Oktoberfest, which attracts millions of visitors annually, saw approximately 450,000 attendees on September 16. The festival offers various carnival attractions and rides, with medical personnel ready to provide assistance if needed. On the opening day of the event, nearly 650 individuals required some form of medical attention.
