On September 15, preceding the official visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the United States of America, a pivotal event transpired in Washington: the Uzbek-American Business Forum, MIIT of Uzbekistan reported. Attended by luminaries from key ministries, industry associations, commercial banks, investment entities, and major U.S. corporations spanning ICT, mechanical engineering, agriculture, light industry, transport, banking, and various other sectors, the forum served as a testament to burgeoning trade, economic, and investment relations between the two nations.
Distinguished speakers at the forum's inauguration included Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khojaev; Minister of MIIT, Laziz Kudratov; Chairperson of the Board of the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce, Carolyn Lamm; President of the US EXIM Bank, Reta Jo Lewis; and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Das Mark Pommersheim.
These addresses underscored the swift evolution of trade, economic, and investment ties, attributed to the resolute commitment of leadership and ongoing collaboration between governments and business circles.
The Uzbek delegation showcased pivotal milestones in economic development, trade, industry, and the enhancement of the investment climate. Notable achievements included the establishment of free-market mechanisms, robust support for entrepreneurship, infrastructure enhancement, energy resource accessibility, reduced state intervention in the economy, and ambitious privatization initiatives.
These reforms have elevated Uzbekistan's allure as an investment destination, particularly for American enterprises. Today, the nation hosts over 300 U.S. companies, more than doubling the 2017 figure. Success stories abound across diverse sectors, encompassing automotive manufacturing (General Motors), agricultural machinery (John Deere, CNH), gas production (Air Products), and agriculture (Silverleafe), among others.
Moreover, the forum identified promising avenues for joint investment projects, encompassing mining, chemical and energy industries, textiles, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and information technology. Collaborative ventures to produce high-value-added goods for third-country exports hold substantial potential.
During the event, dedicated sessions addressed global competition, supply chain sustainability, business environment development, innovation stimulation, strategic forecasting, privatization, and financial and technical collaboration.
The forum continued with "G2B" and "B2B" meetings, affording leaders from Uzbekistan's ministries, departments, industry associations, and prominent companies and their American counterparts a platform to delve into the establishment of joint ventures and mutually beneficial trade accords.
As a culmination of the event's deliberations, 12 documents were signed, spanning the domains of energy, mechanical engineering, ICT, agriculture, financial and technical cooperation, and the production of medical and pharmaceutical products. These agreements signal a deepening of economic engagement and collaboration between Uzbekistan and the United States.
