As part of the USA - Uzbekistan Healthcare Week, the two countries have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding to expand the republic's access to safe and quality TB and other medicines, Daryo correspondent reports.
At the event, US Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Jonathan Henick, emphasized the significance of bilateral cooperation in the public health sector of the two nations.
On his part, USAID Mission Director David Hoffman highlighted the importance of investing in public health, which requires commitments from both the public and private sectors in the future.
Djoldas Kuldjanov, an orthopedic surgery specialist in Saint Louis, MO, said, "I’ve been living in America for thirty years. Back then, we worked closely with ministers to establish cooperation between our American and Uzbek colleagues. Thankfully, we were able to move forward with our plans. Our first group consisted of 16 individuals, and we were able to showcase our capabilities and hospitals to them. We also identified potential areas of collaboration between our Uzbek and American colleagues. Today, we have around 250 Americans here, including investors. In recognition of his contributions, we've decided to award Uzbekistan’s Health Minister Amrillo Inoyatov a star in the old star registry. We hope this will encourage Uzbekistan’s healthcare to continue its great work".
The ceremony acknowledged attendees for outstanding healthcare achievements, recipients of the Ministry of Health gratitude certificate, and nominees for Honorary Professor.
The MoU outlines that Uzbekistan has agreed to be identified as a U.S. global health security intensive support partner, indicating their willingness to participate in a bilateral partnership. Its focus will be to address health security capacity gaps identified in Uzbekistan's Joint External Evaluation Report and National Action Plans for Health Security and One Health. The U.S. Government Agencies plan on utilizing their existing resources to provide Uzbekistan with technical support and cooperation, aiming to strengthen their capacity to prepare for and respond to future pandemics and health security threats.
