A delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov, embarked on a three-day official visit to the Republic of Korea from September 10 to 12. The visit aimed at enhancing the already robust strategic partnership between the two nations, focusing on economic cooperation and cementing ties across various government departments.
The visit began with a warm reception by the Prime Minister of South Korea, Han Duck-soo. During their meeting, both sides underscored their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, building on previous agreements, and fostering cooperation in diverse sectors.
One of the highlights of the visit was the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between the Foreign Ministries of Uzbekistan and South Korea. This forum, designed to cultivate mutual trust and deepen collaboration, brought together delegations led by the respective Foreign Ministers. The ministers emphasized the need for accelerated bilateral relations and placed special emphasis on achieving concrete outcomes in economic diplomacy. As a tangible result, they signed the outcome document summarizing the discussions and agreements reached during the Strategic Dialogue.
Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov also had a productive meeting with Ban Ki-moon, President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The discussions revolved around joint projects, with a particular focus on GGGI's Uzbekistan Country Planning Framework for 2021-2025 and Strategy for Uzbekistan’s Transition to a Green Economy for 2019-2030. The talks highlighted the successful ongoing projects that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create green jobs, enhance access to sustainable services, improve energy efficiency, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Further strengthening economic ties, the Uzbekistan-Korean Business Forum was organized in Seoul during the visit. The event saw active participation from over 300 representatives of leading companies from both countries. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and South Korea expressed their satisfaction with the growing economic collaboration, noting that approximately $13 bn worth of joint projects are currently underway in Uzbekistan. Over the past four years, the number of businesses operating in Uzbekistan with South Korean capital has doubled, reflecting the increasing confidence of South Korean investors in Uzbekistan's market.
In addition to these key meetings and events, the Uzbekistani delegation, led by Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, engaged in separate negotiations with the heads of several major South Korean companies. These discussions aimed to further solidify economic partnerships and explore opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration.
The visit of the Uzbekistani delegation to South Korea not only deepened diplomatic ties but also paved the way for enhanced economic cooperation and joint ventures, signaling a bright future for the strategic partnership between the two nations.
