The Taliban Standards Department, in coordination with officials at Nimruz and Hayraton ports, has announced the return of low-quality oil to Iran and Uzbekistan. This decision comes as a result of the Taliban's commitment to maintaining certain quality standards for imported goods and fuels, Daryo correspondant in Afghanistan reported.
On September 10, 2023, the Taliban Standards Department revealed that it had returned four low-quality diesel tankers to Iran from the Nimruz port, specifically on platform X. Simultaneously, officials at the Harayatan trading port confirmed that they had returned one wagon of low-quality oil to Uzbekistan.
According to reports, this low-quality oil had been procured from Uzbekistan's GTL (Gas-to-Liquid) company and was brought into Afghanistan by the Anor Dara company. The exact circumstances surrounding the purchase and import of this substandard oil remain unclear, but the Taliban Standards Department's intervention suggests their commitment to ensuring the quality of imported goods in the region.
The decision by the Taliban to return low-quality oil to Iran and Uzbekistan through their Standards Department reflects their efforts to ensure that imported goods meet certain quality standards. This incident may have economic and trade relations implications for the parties involved, underscoring the complex dynamics at play in the region's trade network.
Earlier Daryo reported that the Taliban's oil and gas ministry at the Hairatan port in Balkh province recently declared that they have sent back 80 wagons of substandard oil and gas to Uzbekistan within the last four months.
