Beshbarmak: This hearty dish consists of boiled meat, usually horse, beef, or lamb, served with pastry noodles and potatoes. Its flavorful blend of ingredients and unique preparation method have made it a top choice among foreigners exploring Kazakh cuisine. In western Kazakhstan, a variation known as "fishbarmak" also enjoys popularity, showcasing the country's regional culinary diversity.
Baursak: Taking the second spot in terms of popularity is baursak, a puffy fried bread with a variety of regional recipes throughout Kazakhstan. Tourists are often drawn to the smaller version called "shi baursaks," especially when visiting Eastern Kazakhstan, considering them as delightful souvenirs.
Kazy: Holding the third position on the list of favored dishes among foreign guests is kazy, a cold cut made from horse meat. While it may not be as well-known as Besbarmak or Baursak, it still captures the attention of adventurous eaters exploring Kazakh gastronomy.
Moreover, traditional Kazakh dairy-based sweets have also garnered considerable favor among tourists. Delicacies like zhent and kyzyl irimshik are offered in attractive, small gift sets by local entrepreneurs for visitors to purchase as unique souvenirs.
Kyzyl Irimshik: Known humorously as "Kazakh Raffaello," kyzyl irimshik is a sweet made from cottage cheese. Its unique taste and presentation make it a memorable treat for those seeking a sweet experience in Kazakh cuisine.
"Kazakh chocolate is immensely popular, both as a consumer product and as a souvenir. It is particularly well-loved by tourists from the European Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States," stated Moldir Abdualiyeva, the official representative of the Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
These culinary revelations highlight the growing interest in Kazakhstan's rich and diverse food culture among international tourists.
