Kazakhstan is gearing up to open its first Honorary Consulate in Penang, Malaysia, this fall, marking a significant step in the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations. Datoˊ Wira Louis Ng Chun Hau, a prominent Malaysian businessman, and the founder and executive chairman of Public Gold Group, has been appointed as the Honorary Consul for Kazakhstan. In an interview, Ng Chun Hau elaborated on his motivations for taking on this mission and the potential for advancing trade, innovation, and prosperity through this partnership.
One of Ng Chun Hau's primary motivations for assuming this crucial role is his deep-seated aspiration to be a catalyst for positive change, not only in his home country but also on the global stage. He envisions a world where efforts are made to combat poverty and improve living standards for communities, both local and foreign, and he believes that his extensive business network can be a powerful tool in achieving these goals.
"As a Malaysian businessman, I believe that Malaysia shares similar values and goals with Kazakhstan, such as expanding into foreign markets and enhancing socio-economic aspects, including tourism, culture, trade, investments – particularly in the precious metal industry – and improving the welfare of citizens," he remarked.
Ng Chun Hau is committed to fortifying the existing bonds between Kazakhstan and Malaysia, with a focus on enriching socio-economic sectors in both nations, all while representing the interests of Kazakh citizens residing in Penang.
"With this new role, I am eager to serve and provide assistance for Kazakhs looking to explore more business and investment opportunities in Penang and Malaysia, fostering a brighter future together," Ng Chun Hau stated.
Trade and the economy emerge as key areas with significant potential for expanding bilateral partnerships. Ng Chun Hau emphasized the importance of exploring business and investment opportunities in both countries, with the aim of facilitating future partnerships between the local communities in Penang and Kazakhstan.
Another promising avenue for cooperation lies in technology and innovation, encompassing technology transfer, innovation initiatives, and research and development.
"Penang boasts a robust electric and electronics sector, and our region ranks among the global leaders in this industry. The knowledge in technology and innovation can be mutually shared and further enhanced between our countries," he noted.
As per Ng Chun Hau, Kazakhstan's energy, technology, agriculture, and infrastructure sectors offer exceptional investment opportunities for Malaysian investors. His key objectives in this role include promoting economic cooperation and trade diversification between the two states to address global uncertainties. Additionally, he is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of Kazakh citizens in the region by providing consular assistance when needed.
He also underscored the essential qualities expected of an honorary consul, including strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills, effective networking, adaptability, and ethical integrity.
"These qualities are vital for fulfilling the duties of the position, which encompass promoting diplomatic relations, assisting Kazakhs, and engaging with the local community to showcase Kazakhstan's rich heritage," he concluded.
As Kazakhstan and Malaysia prepare to embark on this new chapter of cooperation, the establishment of the Honorary Consulate in Penang, Malaysia, stands as a testament to the growing partnership between these two nations and the potential for mutual growth and prosperity in the years to come.
