On September 7, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a delegation led by South Korea's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Choe Kyung-ho, as reported by the President's press service.
During the meeting, they discussed the further strengthening of the special strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and South Korea and the expansion of multilateral cooperation. At the start of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Choe Kyung-ho conveyed greetings and wishes from South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
Both sides enthusiastically noted that bilateral ties, grounded in longstanding bonds of close friendship, shared mentality, traditions, and values, have been steadily evolving.
President Mirziyoyev touched upon the formation of a new economic agenda for extensive collaboration with South Korea. In recent years, indicators of mutual trade and investments have been steadily rising, with a 24% increase in turnover recorded last year. There are around a thousand joint ventures in the country, and Korean investments have surpassed $7bn.
The cooperation with the Korean International Cooperation Agency, the Korean Eximbank, and their funds was highly praised, with a joint project portfolio exceeding $3bn.
Among the implemented joint projects are a multifaceted children's hospital, a textile technopark, centers for agricultural machinery and rare metals. Priority areas for practical cooperation include expanding technological and investment partnerships with leading South Korean companies, accelerating socially significant projects in education and healthcare, promoting joint ventures in infrastructure, green energy, public administration, finance, digitalization, and education.
