On September 3, at least 10 individuals have lost their lives due to lightning strikes amid heavy rainfall in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. The heartbreaking incident was reported by Xinhua.
This tragic event also left three people seriously injured, further emphasizing the destructive power of lightning. The victims were distributed across various districts within Odisha, with four fatalities reported in Khurda district, two in Bolangir, and one each in Angul, Budha, Jagatsinghpur, and Dhankanal. These losses have deeply saddened local communities and underscore the importance of safety precautions during adverse weather conditions.
Moreover, three additional individuals were injured by lightning in Khurda, adding to the list of those affected by this natural disaster. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued forecasts indicating that such weather conditions are expected to persist for another four days in select parts of the state. This prediction raises concerns about further potential incidents and calls for heightened vigilance among residents.
Unfortunate event is part of a series of weather-related calamities that have plagued the region since June. In Himachal Pradesh, a northern Indian state, approximately 350 lives have been lost due to landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains.
