The South Korean Navy, Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force, and the U.S. Navy have conducted a collaborative missile-defense exercise in the international waters located to the south of the Korean Peninsula, NHK reports.
As per the Defense Ministry of South Korea, the participants in the exercise executed procedures involving the tracking of ballistic missiles and the sharing of related information. This was done within the framework of a simulated scenario where North Korea had launched a missile.
The objective of the exercise was to address the escalating threat posed by North Korea, which includes recent endeavors such as the claimed launch of a military satellite last week. A visual representation released by South Korea's defense ministry displayed three Aegis destroyers, one from each participating country, sailing alongside one another.
The ministry indicated that the three nations tested a real-time information exchange system for missile launches. The plan is to deploy this system by the conclusion of the year. Furthermore, the three nations have committed to collaborating in order to enhance their preparedness and capacities for countering the challenges presented by North Korea's nuclear and missile initiatives.
