According to Business Recorder, Pakistan collaborates with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to share customs information.
Syed Aftab Haider, the Director of Pakistan Single Window, a digital trading platform operator owned by the state, revealed that this new system will enable the complete digitization of goods documentation at the border.
Agreements with the customs authorities of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are expected to be finalized by the end of this year. Before that, the PSW will launch online document sharing with China.
The integration with China's customs system will offer an expanded set of online data, including transportation data, phytosanitary documents, certificates of origin, and goods declaration. Haider anticipates that this exchange will prevent the smuggling of undeclared goods.
The PSW operator is devising a plan to introduce a single cross-border trade procedure for all countries by reviewing the transit trade regimes.
The PSW system, which launched in 2022 and now has almost 70,000 users, has significantly reduced paper circulation in Pakistan's foreign trade, according to Haider. The trade documentation used in the country now employs standardized QR codes.
The World Bank has estimated that the PSW launch has saved approximately $430mn. Uzbek Prime Minister Abdullah Aripov recently proposed establishing a transport corridor from Belarus to Pakistan.
