Russian mercenary group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin listed as passenger on crashed private jet, no survivors

Russian mercenary group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin listed as passenger on crashed private jet, no survivors

In a shocking development, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the enigmatic head of the Russian mercenary group Wagner, has been listed as a passenger on a private jet that crashed with no survivors on the evening of August 23. Russian authorities have confirmed that Prigozhin's name was on the passenger list of the ill-fated plane that went down north of Moscow.

Initially, there was no immediate confirmation regarding Prigozhin's physical presence on the aircraft. However, The leader of the Wagner PMC's death was confirmed by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast administration, Vladimir Rogov. The official confirmation of the death of the Wagner PMC leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin was provided by the TV channel "Russia 24."

The Russian aviation agency, Rosaviatsia, reported that an investigation has been launched into the crash of an Embraer plane in the Tver region. The agency stated that Yevgeny Prigozhin's name was among those on the passenger list, as reported by the state TASS news agency.

The tragic incident involved a private Embraer Legacy aircraft that was en route from Moscow to St. Petersburg. The plane crashed near the village of Kuzhenkino in the Tver Region. The aircraft was reported to have carried a total of 10 individuals, including three crew members. Unfortunately, according to preliminary information, all occupants on board have lost their lives.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, 62, had been at the forefront of a mutiny that took place between June 23-24, which was directed against Russia's top military leadership. President Vladimir Putin had warned that the mutiny had the potential to push the nation into a civil war. The crisis was eventually quelled through negotiations, leading to an apparent agreement that saw Prigozhin agreeing to relocate to Belarus. Despite this arrangement, Prigozhin was seen moving within Russia freely after the agreement.

Prigozhin had been actively working to topple high-ranking figures within the Russian military establishment, including Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Valery Gerasimov, the chief of the general staff. Just days before the tragic crash, Prigozhin released a video message, seemingly shot in Africa, indicating his continued involvement in various activities.

The crash of the private jet has sent shockwaves through Russia, leaving many questions unanswered about the circumstances leading up to the incident and the fate of Yevgeny Prigozhin. A criminal case was initiated regarding the violation of traffic safety and the operation of air transport.
