An increase in cases of West Nile fever is being observed in Romania, propelled by the transmission through mosquitoes and ticks, Euronews has reported.
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), a vast majority, approximately 80%, of the afflicted exhibit no discernible symptoms. In around 20% of cases, fever develops, while about 4.5% face a fatal outcome.
People aged 50 and above are notably susceptible.
West Nile fever is an acute viral malady characterized by elevated body temperature, inflammation of the brain's protective membranes, systemic involvement of mucous membranes, swelling of lymph nodes, and on occasion, a skin rash.
