The Afghan government has announced that formal efforts have been initiated to reclaim military helicopters and aircraft that were handed over to neighboring countries. According to Mohammad Qasim Farsid, Deputy Minister of Planning and Policy at the Ministry of Defense, around 60 helicopters and military aircraft are in the process of being returned to Afghanistan, Daryo correspondant in Afghanistan reported. This move comes as the country grapples with the aftermath of the fall of the previous government and the subsequent power shift to the Taliban.
The fall of the previous Afghan government has brought renewed attention to the issue of retrieving the helicopters and military aircraft from neighboring countries. After the Taliban's rapid takeover, these countries refrained from taking any action to return the aircraft, reportedly due to pressures from the United States. The political shifts and security concerns in Afghanistan have complicated the process of reclaiming the military assets.
Following the collapse of the former Afghan government, a number of military helicopters were reported to have landed in the territories of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The Taliban, now in control of Afghanistan, have made attempts to reclaim these helicopters but have encountered obstacles in their efforts. The current situation has highlighted the intricate diplomatic and logistical challenges surrounding the retrieval of these military assets.
Earlier Daryo reported that the Ministry of Transport in the Taliban-led government highlighted significant accomplishments. The ministry shared data on Afghanistan's airspace and transportation management.
