Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the city was shot down by air defense systems, Interfax has reported.
Its debris fell in the "Expocenter" area, causing no significant damage to buildings.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Ukrainian drone had been targeted at objects in Moscow and the Moscow region, but due to the effectiveness of the air defense system, its flight path was altered, resulting in its crash onto an uninhabited building near Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment in Moscow. The Ministry of Defense assured that there were no casualties or fires.
However, according to eyewitness videos, smoke was seen at the scene, and the Telegram channel "Baza" reported a preliminary estimate of a collapse in an area of 30 square meters within Pavilion 8 of the "Expocenter."
Following the drone attack on the morning of August 18, authorities temporarily restricted flights at all four Moscow airports: Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky. The restrictions were lifted at 4:30 AM.
