The administration of Tashkent has revealed plans to extend the parks lining the city's canals to a total length of 150km by 2030. The initiative to construct parks along the canals commenced back in 2018, with a current total of 42km of recreational spaces established near various canals throughout the city.
This ongoing effort involves reinforcing the canal banks, thorough garbage removal, and the installation of amenities such as seating, waste disposal units, and modern nighttime illumination. Dedicated pedestrian and cycling lanes have also been implemented.
The comprehensive expansion of these parks will follow a systematic approach. The length of the canal-adjacent parks is projected to be 50km by 2024, 90km by 2027, and a final length of 150km by year 2030, as stated in the report.
These newly developed parks will offer facilities like children's playgrounds and commercial service stations, catering to the voluntary cultural and recreational needs of the city's population.
The plan to transform several canals within the capital into park areas was announced during the 75th session of the Tashkent City Council of People's Deputies.
As per available data, Tashkent currently features a total of 128 canals and water collectors. This includes 16 main canals, 24 inter-farm canals, 80 internal farm canals, and 8 collectors, summing up to a combined length of 408km.
Moreover, the total area of green spaces in the capital city is also planned to be increased by 2030. Currently, the total green area of the city is 900 hectares and the milestone is 5,000 hectares.
