The Tashkent City Administration is introducing new measures to improve the care of green spaces in the city. Each tree in Uzbekistan's capital will be assigned a passport, and a specific individual will be responsible for its upkeep.
The plan is to increase the number of green spaces in the city to 5,000 hectares by 2030. In 2024 an additional 300 hectares of green spaces will be created, bringing the total planned green areas to 1,100 hectares, including the existing 900 hectares.
By 2025, there will be 1400 hectares of green spaces, followed by 1,900 hectares in 2026, 2,500 hectares in 2027, 3,200 hectares in 2028, and 4,000 hectares in 2029.
The goal is to manage tree growth and ensure proper care.
Over the years, the administration plans to plant at least 1mn ornamental and fruit trees, as well as create 32 themed gardens and squares, 30 green areas, and boulevards throughout the city.
Besides, a 35-hectare artificial lake, a 50-hectare water park in the "New Tashkent" area, and new park areas will contribute to creating a better microclimate in the city.
Earlier, Daryo reported that to combat illegal logging and promote environmental conservation, the fine for violating regulations related to cutting trees and shrubs has been increased fivefold in Uzbekistan. The moratorium on these activities has also been extended indefinitely, with stricter penalties for those who fail to comply.
