A 23-year-old judo athlete from Uzbekistan, Muzaffarbek Turoboyev, secured a gold medal at the World Judo Masters Hungary 2023, as announced by the National Olympic Committee's press service on August 6.
Turoboyev defeated a 31-year-old athlete from Israel Peter Palchik in the final match for the weight category up to 100 kg.
The last time Uzbekistan's national anthem was played at the annual "Masters" tournament was in 2011 to honor Rishod Sobirov.
It took 12 years for the Uzbek judo school to earn another "gold" medal.
The national team of Uzbekistan also won two bronze medals, which Davlat Bobonov and Diyor Keldiyorov secured.
The sports event occurred from August 4 to 6 at the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena in Budapest, Hungary. It was part of the IJF World Tour and happened during the qualification period for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
