Uzbekistan's forward Eldor Shomurodov has moved from Italian club AS Roma to Cagliari on loan with the option to buy, the team's official website informed on July 27. The move comes as Cagliari returns to Serie A after a year in the second division. Reports show that Cagliari will pay €1 mn for the loan and an additional €9 mn if they decide to make the deal permanent. During the loan period, Roma will cover half of Shomurodov's salary.
Eldor Shomurodov's football journey has seen him play in various clubs, starting from his time in Uzbekistan's Tashkent Bunyodkor, where he scored 19 goals in 71 games. He then moved to the Rostov club in Russia, where he played 91 matches and scored 18 goals in three years. In 2020, Shomurodov transferred to Genoa for €7.5 mn, and later in 2021, he signed a five-year contract with AS Roma for €17.5 mn.
Despite his talent and contributions, Shomurodov faced challenges in the 2022/2023 season, as he was loaned to Spezia. While he played 16 matches and contributed with one goal and two assists, Spezia's performance wasn't enough to avoid relegation from the top division of Italian football.
Throughout his career in the Italian Serie A, Eldor Shomurodov has accumulated 11 goals and 5 assists in 65 matches. At the age of 27, the forward will now have the opportunity to showcase his skills at Cagliari as he embarks on a new chapter in his football journey.
