A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Minister Sherzod Kudbiyev, participated in the high-level political forum of the UN Economic and Social Council in New York, USA. During the forum, Minister Kudbiyev delivered a speech in the general discussions focusing on the theme "Movement towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit," the press service of the Ministry of Economy and Finance reports.
In his address, Minister Kudbiyev highlighted the significant economic growth achieved by Uzbekistan over the past six years. The country's real economic growth rate has increased by 1.4 times during this period. Additionally, there has been a remarkable expansion in preschool and higher education, with preschool education coverage growing threefold and higher education coverage increasing fourfold. Uzbekistan has also witnessed the establishment of over 200,000 new small and medium enterprises, showcasing the country's growing entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized that in 2020, poverty reduction was declared a crucial aspect of Uzbekistan's state policy agenda for the first time.
The forum provided a platform to present Uzbekistan's achievements in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, discussing various aspects such as economic changes, market mechanisms, agricultural reforms, infrastructure development, and progress made in education and healthcare.
The event saw participation from 39 countries presenting their Voluntary National Reports, with Uzbekistan among the 36 countries submitting their reports for the second time. Uzbekistan reaffirmed its strong commitment to implementing the global agenda until 2030, showcasing its accomplishments in almost all of the 16 adopted goals through well-executed reforms in economic, social, and other spheres.
For context, the global agenda until 2030 encompasses 17 BRMs (Benchmarks for Results-Based Management), and Uzbekistan has pledged its dedication to achieving 16 of them.
