The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance collaboration in the transportation sector, the ministry's press service reports. The memorandum covers various areas of cooperation, including the construction or long-term leasing of marine terminals and warehouses in Georgian seaports, joint efforts in civil aviation, advancement of road transport, and collaborative research and innovation in transportation and infrastructure.
This agreement was formalized during the visit of a delegation led by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov to Tbilisi on July 17-18. During the visit, Abdulla Aripov held discussions with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, focusing on strengthening cooperation across multiple domains.
Irakli Garibashvili expressed appreciation for the substantial growth in bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Georgia during 2021-2022. Georgia considers Uzbekistan a crucial partner and is keen on engaging in collaborative efforts to attract investments. Additionally, Georgia welcomes Uzbek investors to its territory.
The Ministry of Transport reported that the volume of export-import freight transportation through Uzbekistan's Georgian ports (Poti and Batumi) reached 864,000 tons, marking a significant 72% increase compared to 2021 (503,000 tons in 2021).
Earlier, on July 19, an agreement was signed between the Trade and Industrial Chambers of the two countries, paving the way for the establishment of the Georgia-Uzbekistan Business Council. Additionally, on July 15, a delegation from Uztekstilprom signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Georgian Clothes and Fashion Association and more than ten import-export companies from Georgia.
