Azerbaijan imported 398.87mn cubic metres of natural gas from Turkmenistan from January to April 2023, compared to 151.96mn a year earlier.
This is reports by the local edition of "Oil - Gas" with reference to the data of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.
In value terms, Turkmen supplies (33.25% of Azerbaijan's total gas imports) in the reporting period were estimated at $59.18mn, which is almost five times higher than a year earlier.
In the structure of gas imports to Azerbaijan, the main volume of gas (66.7%) came from Russia, from where more than 800.66mn cubic metres were supplied since the beginning of the year.
For the first time Azerbaijan started swap purchases of Turkmen gas in 2022 through the territory of Iran. The trilateral contract is open-ended and provides for deliveries of up to 3.0-4.0bn cubic metres of Turkmen gas annualy.
Azerbaijan is increasing gas imports from CIS countries to fulfil its contractual obligations to export to Europe.
