Kazakh farmers exported 32.68 thousand tons of rice between January and April, Spot.uz has reported.
Compared to the same period last year, the volume of international shipments increased by 12.3%. However, the revenue growth from these exports was more modest at only 3.1%, reaching $11.29 mn.
The majority of exports (approximately 99%) went to CIS countries, with 32.37 thousand tons or 19% more than the previous year. The income generated from these exports amounted to $11.04 mn, showing an increase of 11.1%. Uzbekistan emerged as the largest buyer of Kazakh rice, importing 14.32 thousand tons in the four-month period, compared to 1.05 thousand tons in the previous year. This resulted in a revenue increase of over fourteen times, reaching $3.33 mn. Prior to this, Russia was the main importer, but during the first four months of 2022, they purchased only 8.7 thousand tons, a 38% decrease, with a revenue drop of 17.6%. Tajikistan occupied the third spot, increasing its imports by a third to 6.9 thousand tons. Kazakhstan's revenue from these exports grew by more than one and a half times, amounting to $2.27 mn.
Simultaneously, rice exports from Kazakhstan to Ukraine significantly decreased by 39% to 1818 tons. There was an even more notable decline in shipments to Azerbaijan, with the country purchasing only 243 tons, over five times less than the previous year.
Outside of the CIS countries, Mongolia remained the leader in importing rice from Kazakhstan, despite a nearly 85% drop in shipments to 140 tons. However, exports to the United States increased by 4.5 times, exceeding 96 tons.
