On July 17, an incident took place on the Crimean Bridge near the 145th support pillar from the Krasnodar Krai side, as announced by Sergey Aksyonov, the head of Crimea. While traffic on the bridge was temporarily halted, railway transportation was later resumed as that particular section remained unaffected.
Reports from Russian publication Readovka and various bloggers suggested that a missile strike caused the collapse of the 145th support pillar and two spans on the bridge. However, the Russian Ministry of Transport contradicted these claims, stating that only the roadway on the Crimean side sustained damage, while the bridge spans remained intact.
Vladimir Konstantinov, the head of the Crimean parliament, accused the Ukrainian authorities of being responsible for the attack on the Crimean Bridge. Nevertheless, Ukrainian authorities did not claim responsibility for the explosion. Andriy Yusev, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, refrained from providing specific comments on the incident, referring to the visible traffic congestion and bridge damage. He quoted Kirill Budanov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, who deemed the Crimean Bridge as an unnecessary construction.
Tragically, a married couple from the Belgorod Region lost their lives due to the incident on the Crimean Bridge, as reported by Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. Their daughter sustained moderate injuries and was hospitalised.
Later the same day, National Anti-Terrorism Center of Russia reports that two unmanned surface vehicles of Ukrainian origin conducted a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, resulting in damage to the road component. A criminal case has been initiated based on the charge of a terrorist attack.
