The NATO summit held in Vilnius on July 11-12 focused on various key topics, with one of the main discussions centred around supporting Ukraine. During the summit, the NATO countries reached an agreement to streamline the process of Ukraine's potential entry into the alliance.
However, it was emphasised that Ukraine's invitation to join NATO would ultimately depend on the unanimous agreement of all member states and the fulfilment of certain conditions, the details of which were not specified.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky actively participated in the summit, arriving in Vilnius on July 11 and attending the NATO meetings the following day. The significant development during the summit was the establishment of the Ukraine-NATO Council, which was based on the existing Ukraine-NATO Commission established in 1997.
Zelenskyi expressed his optimism that the council's formation would create a sense of belonging to the alliance for Ukraine. Moreover, the Group of Seven countries issued a statement during the summit, assuring Ukraine of security guarantees and pledging military and financial support.
The discussions and agreements reached at the summit highlight the importance of cooperation and collaboration between NATO and Ukraine in addressing regional security challenges and fostering stability in the region.
