President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has congratulated President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on his confident victory in the presidential election held in the country the previous day.
The two parties discussed issues of further deepening Uzbek-Turkmen relations of strategic partnership, the Uzbek presidential press service reports.

Trade turnover is growing at a steady pace. Sessions of intergovernmental commissions, political consultations, meetings of transport, energy and culture ministers have been successfully held since the beginning of the year, the information said.
"The heads of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan noted the importance of building up comprehensive cooperation and promoting practical interaction projects."
For Turkmenistan, the border with Uzbekistan is the longest among neighbouring countries - about 1,700 km. A free trade zone is being created in the border region of Uzbekistan. Turkmenistan is building a $2.3bn autobahn in that direction.
The two countries are also working together on the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor and discussing options for cargo transport via a port on the Caspian Sea.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has switched to direct purchases of Turkmen energy resources. Last year, trade turnover between the countries reached $926.3mn, five times more than in 2017.
