Tangryguly Atakhallyev, who previously headed Turkmenistan's Balkan region in the west, has been appointed deputy prime minister for agriculture.
A decree to this effect was signed by the president, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. Annageldy Yazmyradov, a former branch manager in the government, was relieved on health grounds. Local media reported the other day that President Serdar Berdimuhamedov pointed out shortcomings in ongoing agricultural work at a working meeting.
Turkmenistan is now in the process of harvesting grain - 1.4mn tonnes of wheat are to be collected.
And mineral fertilisers are being applied to the fields sown with cotton. The annual plan to harvest this strategic crop for the local economy makes up 1.250mn tons.
In addition, the country is harvesting potatoes and sowing rice.
