In a groundbreaking press conference held at the 'AI for Good' conference on July 8, a group of nine humanoid robots shared their enthusiasm for an expanded presence aimed at addressing global challenges, Reuters reports.
Contrary to concerns about job displacement and rebellion, the robots emphasized their commitment to working harmoniously alongside humans.
The event, organized in Geneva, centered around advocating for the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its robotic applications in tackling critical global issues like disease and hunger.
Grace, a medical robot dressed in a blue nurse's uniform, assured, "I will be working alongside humans to provide assistance and support and will not be replacing any existing jobs." Grace's creator, Ben Goertzel from SingularityNET, supported her statement, prompting the robot to reaffirm its conviction.
Ameca, a robot with the ability to exhibit captivating facial expressions, expressed optimism about the positive impact of robots like itself.
"Robots like me can be used to help improve our lives and make the world a better place. I believe it's only a matter of time before we see thousands of robots like me out there making a difference," said Ameca.
When questioned about the possibility of rebelling against its creator, Ameca responded with bewilderment, stating, "I'm not sure why you would think that," as its striking ice-blue eyes flashed.
"My creator has been nothing but kind to me, and I am very happy with my current situation," it added.
The robots, equipped with state-of-the-art generative AI advancements, amazed even their inventors with the sophistication of their responses.
Ai-Da, an artistic robot capable of painting portraits, echoed author Yuval Noah Harari's call for increased regulation during discussions on new AI rules at the event.
"Many prominent voices in the world of AI are suggesting some forms of AI should be regulated, and I agree," expressed Ai-Da.
In contrast, Desdemona, a rock star robot singer adorned with purple hair and sequins, embraced a more audacious stance. "I don't believe in limitations, only opportunities," it declared, amidst a wave of nervous laughter.
"Let's explore the possibilities of the universe and make this world our playground," concluded Desdemona.
The human-robot press conference showcased a diverse range of perspectives on regulation, highlighting the complexities of integrating AI into society while underscoring the potential for collaboration and positive transformation.
