The leader of the Taliban has declared that Afghan women have been freed from oppression, Just Paste, reports.
In his Eid al-Adha statement, Taliban's supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, revealed that concrete actions were taken to rescue women from traditional oppression, including forced marriages. Their rights under Sharia law were safeguarded.
Women's status as free and respected individuals has been reinstated. All institutions are now obligated to support women in securing their rights to marriage, inheritance, and other entitlements, - said Akhundzada.
Taliban has actively worked to improve conditions for women, ensuring a comfortable life in accordance with Islamic principles.
After assuming power in August 2021, the Taliban implemented restrictions aligned with their interpretation of Islamic values. These measures included mandatory hijabs for female news anchors and the prohibition of dramatic films and shows featuring women actors.
Additionally, the Taliban barred high school girls from attending school, denied access to universities for girls seeking higher education, and restricted women from working in national and international non-governmental organizations.
