Billionaire Roman Abramovich refuses to transfer money from the sale of Chelsea Football Club to Ukraine.
The UK government has frozen the $2.9 bn received from the club's sale to Todd Boehly and other investors, requiring the former owner of Chelsea to sign an order to send the funds to Ukraine.
However, Abramovich is refusing to sign, as he wants the money to be distributed between Ukraine and Russia, Daily Mail reports.
Due to the situation caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Abramovich's assets in the UK, including the Chelsea FC account, have also been frozen.
Initially, the billionaire transferred the management of Chelsea to a charitable foundation, which later had to sell the club due to government pressure. In May 2022, Abramovich sold Chelsea to American billionaire Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Capital consortium. The deal is reported to be valued at $5.4 bn.
