During a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed three solutions to the Palestinian dilemma as China Central Television reports. As state-run broadcaster CCTN states, Abbas arrived in Beijing on June 13, on a four-day state visit. Abbas is making his fifth official visit to the world's second-largest economy.
"First and foremost, the main solution to the Palestinian problem is the creation of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” declared Xi Jinping. Second, to ensure that the needs of the Palestinian economy and people are addressed, the international community should increase development and humanitarian aid to Palestine. Third, the Chinese leader stressed the importance of moving forward in the peace talks.
According to Xi Jinping, "respecting the historical status quo" and "refraining from radical and provocative words and actions" with relation to the holy land are required.
Furthermore, the Chinese leader highlighted that it was vital to assist in the holding of a "larger, higher-profile peacekeeping conference."
Xi Jinping revealed that, "Real efforts must be made to create the conditions for the resumption of peace talks and to promote the peaceful coexistence of Palestine and Israel." He stated that China is willing to play a constructive role in the advancement of peace talks.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has arrived in Beijing, and China has expressed willingness to assist in facilitating Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
Since 1967, nearly every US president has attempted facilitate peace talks between the Israel and Palestine. European powers have also attempted to act as mediators in the peace process as seen at the Oslo Accords in 1993.
