Several African leaders who plan to visit Russia and Ukraine on June 16, have established "confidence-building measures" between Moscow and Kyiv to put out the fire, informs Reuters.
African countries want to propose measures such as the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine's territory, the non-deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on Belarus' territory, the suspension of the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin, and the easing of sanctions.
The leaders of South Africa, the Comoros Islands, Egypt, Senegal, Zambia, Uganda, and the Republic of the Congo will visit Kyiv on June 16 to meet with Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky. They will travel to Moscow the next day for discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Reuters reports.
The foregoing initiatives, according to the letter, "should be aimed at creating favourable conditions for a ceasefire, allowing the parties to develop their strategies for building confidence and restoring peace."
The proposel also indicates that negotiations between Russia and the West should improve the cease-fire agreement.
South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, claimed in mid-May that Putin and Zelensky agreed to host an African leaders' mission to examine a potential peace proposal to address the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
